The Mythical Creatures of Himmapan Forest

Religious beliefs play important roles in Asian literature. Religious tales were recorded in the form of manuscripts, beys-relief, sculptures, and mural paintings. Two prominent religions mentioning tales of Himmapan creatures are Hinduism and Buddhism. These creatures may be deities, semi-deities or demons.

World Heritage Sites; Part Ninth


The sacred area of Lumbini located in the Terai plains of southern Nepal, testified by the inscription on the pillar erected by the Mauryan Emperor Asoka in 249 BC. Its remains contain important evidence about the nature of Buddhist pilgrimage centers from as early as the 3rd century BC.
